Walking from Harry Reid International (LAS) to the Las Vegas Strip

As the industry leading Atlantic City Podcast, we get one question more frequently than any other: Is it possible to walk from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to the strip?

I looked online before our corporate retreat to Las Vegas and the internet was quite mixed on this question. Some people said it was doable but difficult, and others just outright said that it’s not possible or reasonable. So I decided to do a little bit of the investigative reporting that we are known for.

And the answer is… it’s really very easy.

The only hard part is leaving the immediate vicinity of the airport:

This image is from Google Maps, with the red lines added by me. If you want to make this walk you should leave the from the departures/check in area. I did not and left near exit 17 in the baggage claim area (which was for Limo pick up as of April 2023), and had to play a little unnecessary frogger on the airport grounds.

If you leave from departures there is a sidewalk you can walk down, just follow the red lines (and the green line provided by Google maps). The only area where I had to play frogger again on this route was the area of the green circle, but I suspect I could have walked a little extra and crossed legally at the intersection if I wanted.

Once you cross Kitty Hawk Way there is a sidewalk running along the ramp there that takes you out to Paradise Rd, where there will be sidewalks the entire way back to the strip.

Google says the walk was about 3 miles, and it took me a little under an hour, with a quick stop to eat/drink at an Einstein Bagels on Tropicana Ave. and a run in Liquor World to buy a couple fifths of Whiskey.

I don’t think you should necessarily do it mid afternoon in August, but on a 70 degree day in April it was extremely pleasant.

So don’t let the internet stop you if this is something you want to do! It’s really not bad!

    Geez
What a waste of Vegas Time you’ve not been for years and you wasted time to walk through one of the dangerous parts of Vegas.

I would discourage this in a heartbeat
PS the title should be if you want to be mugged walk to Vegas from the Airport

Guys I’m a big fan as you guys rock AC and I passionately love AC stick to giving advice on AC and let the experienced people advise Vegas.

The guy above that says this is a dangerous neighborhood is obviously clueless.

It is a cement filled walk with no interesting sights but is not dangerous so long as you stay on the walkways and out of the roads.

But too many are afraid of their shadow.

I think being a 30 year veteran who frequents Vegas more in a year than these guys in 10 combined knows exactly what Las Vegas is like around that area I have many friends that live in Vegas and don’t think for once I haven’t asked that ? All stated .. It was dumb for two reasons

      1. Firstly it is dangerous
      2. What a waste of time

Now let me be clear I’m a big fan of these guys but if one can’t give an honest opinion about what he did and in a way suggesting other people should well try I certainly would not recommend this to anybody.

I think Johnny hit the nail on the head, it’s a walk on empty sidewalks on very busy roads with very little around you except for a lot of traffic for most of it. But the idea that it’s more dangerous than any of the walks that I normally do in any major American city I am in seems extremely hard to believe.

If you don’t want to walk because you find it a waste of time, that’s fine, and that’s your opinion that I can’t argue with. But I’d guess that the likelihood of being a victim of crime per mile is much, much higher on the strip than it was on this walk.

Fair enough like you say it’s an opinion . Clearly your street wise and feel comfortable doing these walks ..

Anyway glad you responded as I’m sure you’ll agree if a blog can cause a debate of any kind then it was interesting 👍

          Looking forward to your 201

My walking has generated a lot of feedback, so maybe in 202 I’ll talk about it a little (201 probably will have too many other things to talk about).

Only a degen that is trying to save all his/her money to amble with, would do this non sense.

I go to Vegas quite a bit. I also like to walk. Not to save money (if you’re on a budget, stay out of Las Vegas), but simply because I enjoy it. I’ve never done the airport to the Strip walk but now I feel the need to do so and safety is not a concern of mine (perhaps others) in that area. I’ve found myself walking places I shouldn’t in Las Vegas, that area doesn’t seem bad at all. Kyle, the walk you did from Fremont to the Strip seems a lot more challenging, and a little more sketchy
